Our consultants and analysts

Simon SherringtonSimon Sherrington (Founder and Managing Director) has over 15 years' experience in consultancy, market and company analysis, forecasting, data collection, benchmarking, event moderation, and primary research, including interviewing and survey design and interpretation. He has a deep knowledge of fast-moving areas of commerce and industry, in particular the information and communications technology sector and has undertaken over 50 customised research and consultancy projects for clients including blue-chip companies from the telecoms service provision and manufacturing markets, government departments and regulators. Simon, a law graduate, is also an experienced presenter, event moderator and workshop facilitator. He set up the custom research business of Analysys Research, an internationally respected strategy consultancy and analyst house specialising in telecoms and new media, and has also written over 30 reports analysing various aspects of the telecoms, IT and media industry.

Danny DicksDanny Dicks (Principal Consultant) is a graduate physicist who began his career editing and indexing multi-volume engineering encyclopaedias and spent 13 years as a marketing communications consultant for public utilities, small private technology companies and large multinational corporations, in fields as diverse as water, waste and electricity supply, non-destructive testing, and telecommunications products and services. During nearly 20 years as an industry analyst, market research and business consultant in telecoms / IT, healthcare, and other technology markets, Danny has directed research and authored dozens of industry reports and has undertaken over 150 single-client assignments. He is expert in design and management of business and consumer market research, qualitative and quantitative data analysis and interpretation. He also works as an event facilitator, presenter and rapporteur. His Twitter account is @Danny_Dicks.

Harry IdeHarry Ide (Editorial Assistant) joined Innovation Observatory in 2016, and tracks multiple emerging technology markets, taking the lead on developing timelines of significant past activity, and projecting significant developments in topics including 3D printing, drones, new materials and AI and , as well as researching mobile telecoms infrastructure and service topics. Reports for Innovation Observatory clients include those on LTE spectrum, V2X, IoT and Mobile Broadcast technology. He has also worked on projects for Innovation Observatory’s Chinese telecom clients, preparing award entries and writing case studies. Before joining Innovation Observatory, Harry worked as a teacher of English in Cambodia and China, and a freelance translator for video game publishers; he is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Harry graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with a first class honours degree in creative writing.

Milena MihovaMilena Mihova (Research Assistant) joined Innovation Observatory in 2017 from media analysis company Gorkana where she was responsible for analysing news coverage for technology clients including Microsoft. She has also worked as a freelance journalist in the UK and was for several years a staff journalist on newspapers in her native Bulgaria, where she won awards for her reporting. Milena has a masters degree in journalism from Sofia University (St Kliment Ohridski), and speaks Bulgarian and Russian. At Innovation Observatory Milena has written on the impact of artificial intelligence, and tracks mobile telecoms, wearable devices, augmented and virtual reality and drones markets, among others. She has also authored reports on mobile device chipsets, national spectrum auctions, and 5G trials, among other topics. Milena is particularly interested in the social implications of technology advances.


Our associates

Catherine Viola has over ten years' experience within the research house/consultancy environment. She has written extensively for Innovation Observatory in the area of green energy and smart grids and was co-author of the Innovation Observatory reports Assessing the Smart Grid Opportunity and Meeting the Challenges of Smart Grid Charging and Billing. As an analyst at telecoms research house/consultancy, Analysys Mason, she specialised in research related to wireless network technologies and spectrum.
